5 year anniversary...We miss you, Pop.

Today marks the five year anniversary of my grandpa's passing...as many of you know we were very close. It still hurts this many years later. Pop was a wonderful man and was blessed with many gifts. One gift was his poetry...he wrote a poem every day. When he first realized he had this gift he prayed. He told me once that he simply asked God to tell him what to do and his response was to write poetry. He felt like his gift of writing poetry was a way to reach others...he indeed did do this and was published as well! I think it is appropriate on this day to share one of his poems. When Joe and I first got engaged my mom and dad threw a small party at their house after the big night. Pop wrote the following poem and read it at the party. Joe and I both felt like it needed to be included somehow on our wedding day. We agreed to have it printed on the back of our programs...so here is is. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did and still do! I love you, Pop!!!!
Missy and Joe
The world will be a better place
And shine as brilliant as the sun,
The day when Missy and her Joe
Say vows and become as one.
Was a snowy day in December
One might hear an angel sing,
For in a gazebo at Mount Saint Francis
Joe gave Missy an engagement ring.
I pledge to you, you pledge to me
Before our God above,
Except for Him we two will be
The first in line for love.
Both families always did agree
It would be a perfect match,
And "Miss" and Joe are heard to say
"I've made the best of catch."
A General Joe will never be
But truly it is said,
Pray His heart grows not an inch
It now competes with his head
You can look the whole world over
To try to find an extra measure,
In Joe there's not another ounce
His love his greatest treasure.
And in the chapel on the hill
Let the joy of the moment bring,
two hearts today that's overjoyed
Before Jesus the Lord and King.
His blessing He will send to you
Today and He always will,
Just one day come back to celebrate
In the chapel on the hill.
Love, Pop
